CONTROL ID: 1476584 TITLE: Hydrogen at Mars: Effects on Ion Composition ABSTRACT BODY: A model of the Martian ionosphere is used to examine the effects of Hydrogen chemistry on topside ionospheric composition. The presence of atomic and molecular hydrogen in the neutral atmosphere leads to the production of hydrogenated ions. Different conditions are modeled and the resulting concentrations of modeled and Viking-measured ions are compared. The effects of hydrogen on the simulated ionosphere are discussed. Future comparisons with measurements can be made when the MAVEN mission arrives at Mars. CURRENT SECTION/FOCUS GROUP: SPA-Aeronomy CURRENT SESSION: SA012.
